Mental Health Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join the Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust. Based at HMP Woodhill, you will play a crucial role in the Integrated Mental Health Team, assessing and managing risk alongside prison colleagues.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assessing the mental health needs of prisoners, providing appropriate interventions, and facilitating referrals. This will be delivered through outpatient clinics, inpatient clinical assessment units, and across the prison wings, giving you the opportunity to work within diverse fields of primary, secondary, and forensic mental health.
As a key member of the team, you will be expected to work autonomously, managing a caseload and responding to emergency referrals. You will also work closely with the Primary Care team, enabling holistic care that addresses both physical and mental well-being.
Main Responsibilities:
- To play a key role in the Early Days in Custody initiative, working closely with other departments to assess and manage risks.
- To function fully within the Integrated Mental Health Team, assessing and treating patients throughout their journey in prison.
- To undertake comprehensive assessments, either alone or with colleagues, and provide feedback to the Multi-disciplinary Team, ensuring planned care is individualized and tailored to patient needs.
- To provide effective case management to a defined caseload, in accordance with the Care Programme Approach, in conjunction with the team, relevant prison departments, and external health, social care, and probation services.
- To ensure effective pre-release care planning.
Person Specification:
Education and Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RMN)
- Mentorship or supervisor qualification
- Evidence of professional development since registration
Desirable:
- Post-registration qualification enhancing clinical work: CBT, DBT, Dual Diagnosis, etc.
Previous Experience:
- Substantial post-registration experience
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience mentoring or supervising students
- Experience care coordinating within the CPA framework
- Experience working in a community setting
