PhD Researcher: Investigating Codon Usage in Protein Synthesis and Gene Regulation
2 weeks ago
Project Overview
The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to investigate the role of codon usage in protein synthesis and gene regulation. This project aims to unravel the underlying mechanism by which codon-level information regulates translation using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.
Research Objectives
The successful candidate will use cutting-edge deep learning techniques to study the regulation of translation and develop models that accurately capture the complexities of biological systems. The project will involve the analysis of 'omics' data and the use of foundation models to generalize across a multitude of problems.
Methodology
The researcher will employ computational methods to study the inner workings and control of biological systems. This will involve the systematic analysis of mRNA sequences and the use of disease-associated alterations as inputs to unravel the underlying mechanism.
Expected Outcomes
The project is expected to contribute significantly to our understanding of the role of codon usage in protein synthesis and gene regulation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a world-leading research environment and contribute to the development of new AI techniques for the analysis of biological data.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a strong background in a relevant subject, such as computational biology or bioinformatics. They will also have excellent programming skills and experience with deep learning techniques. The University of Cambridge is an inclusive and supportive environment, and we welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Funding
The studentship is fully funded and includes a stipend and tuition fees. The successful candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art equipment and training opportunities.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or expect to gain a First/Upper Second Class degree in a relevant subject from any recognized university worldwide.
