Unlocking the Code: PhD Studentship in AI-Driven Codon Usage Research
8 hours ago
Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team and contribute to a cutting-edge research project focused on deciphering the role of codon usage in protein synthesis and gene regulation using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.
This project aims to unravel the underlying mechanism by which codon-level information regulates translation, with a focus on developing novel AI-driven approaches to study the inner workings and control of biological systems.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational or systems biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related discipline, and a keen interest in AI and deep learning. The role will offer extensive training in machine learning and computational biology, as well as the opportunity to work with a world-leading research team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing AI-driven approaches to study codon usage and its impact on protein synthesis and gene regulation
- Collaborating with the research team to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results
- Contributing to the development of novel computational models and tools for studying biological systems
We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students who hold or expect to gain a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. Applicants with relevant research experience, gained through Master's study or while working in a laboratory, are strongly encouraged to apply.
To apply, please submit your application via the University Applicant Portal, including a statement of interest, academic transcripts, and details of two academic referees. The closing date for applications is 31st October 2024.
