Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmaceutical Scientist to join our Pharmacy Quality Assurance team at the Royal Derby Hospital. As a Senior Healthcare Scientist, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of aseptic services, wholesale dealing, and trust nuclear medicine services.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with GMP and MHRA principles
  • Assisting the Pharmacy QA manager
  • Reviewing and signing laboratory documentation
  • Coordinating laboratory workload with the Deputy QA Manager
  • Writing and approving procedures
  • Performing final release of specials licensed batches
  • Leading on training of staff
  • Leading on species identification service
  • Participating in pharmaceutical microbiological, air quality, and equipment testing
  • Carrying out sterility tests
  • Participating with other staff in the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and records
  • Temperature mapping and temperature distribution checks
  • Risk management issues within the section, such as Health and Safety, COSHH, and Infection Control
  • Management of departmental documentation
  • Making decisions involving the day-to-day running of the service and delivery of staff training

Requirements:

  • NVQ3, BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or Equivalent
  • Science Degree

Experience:

  • Appraisal and supervisory experience
  • Microbiological expertise to degree or equivalent level through experience and training
  • Release of special licensed batches

Skills:

  • Evidence of work planning
  • Evidence that demonstrates reasoning and judgement and able to manage difficult and ambiguous problems
  • Able to cope with a number of complex issues at any one time
  • Effective computer / IT knowledge and skills
  • Effective communication to ensure delivery of training and more complex information using systematic reporting processes to pharmacy staff using verbal and written skills
