About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Expert in Speech and Language Therapy to join our Surgical Speech and Hearing Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be a recognised clinical expert in the assessment and management of communication disorders, including speech, voice, resonance, and breathing. They will have knowledge and skills in instrumental methods that support both assessment and intervention in this caseload.

The role involves providing a high-level specialist speech and language therapy service, consisting of assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, and management for in- and out-patients with communication and airway difficulties arising from a wide range of rare and unusual medical conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of supervising staff, project management, and transformation. They will work collaboratively to coordinate expert and efficient clinical care across the surgical speech specialties with direct management support from the Team Leader for Surgical Speech Services.

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide a high-level specialist speech and language therapy service, including assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, and management for in- and out-patients with communication and airway difficulties.
  • To take on a leadership role within a designated area of the Surgical Speech and Hearing Service, supporting the team lead to provide a high-quality, evidence-based service.
  • To work as an independent practitioner, accessing the Department's supervision system, and seeking and maintaining peer support from other specialist practitioners in line with Clinical Governance and professional guidelines.
  • To monitor and evaluate own highly specialist service delivery and provide progress reports to the Team Leader/Clinical Expert.
  • To present the specialist subject in an evidence-based framework and at an appropriate level to a wide range of audiences, including parents, teachers, medical colleagues, Allied Health Professionals, and consumer groups.
