About Climate X

Climate X is a pioneering climate adaptation data company revolutionizing the way the world manages assets, property, and infrastructure. We apply cutting-edge science to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, combining climate projections, remote sensing observations, and modeling to project physical climate risks.

Our SaaS platform enables financial institutions and real estate firms to assess future climate pathways, helping them:

  • Identify potential damage to assets from severe weather events
  • Evaluate the impact on asset valuations
  • Become more resilient to climate change and make informed investment decisions

We champion diversity and inclusion, fostering a culture of innovation where problem-solving and fun coexist to address the most pressing challenge our society faces.

Finding the Right Person

We are seeking a founding member for our Model Validation team. As our first internal validator, you will be responsible for ensuring the conceptual soundness, robustness, and regulatory compliance of our Climate, Hazard, and Loss models.

You will collaborate closely with our interdisciplinary Science team, comprising climate scientists, hazard scientists, and geospatial experts. Your role involves verifying modeling approaches as part of our adherence to Model Risk Management (MRM) standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative reviews of our models, focusing on conceptual soundness, assumptions, data integrity, performance, and documentation
  • Maintain our register of models, MRM documentation, and help prioritize model improvements
  • Engage in ongoing model review activities, including independent validation, monitoring report review, and addressing action items when required
  • Collaborate with Model Developers and other relevant team members across the company
  • Prepare technical reports for distribution and presentation to various stakeholders, including Model Developers, senior management, audit, and regulatory authorities

What You Need

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with climate risk modeling, including a strong understanding of critical challenges and emerging issues in climate risk management
  • Proven expertise in analytics and the development or validation of statistical models within the banking or financial services sector
  • Advanced proficiency in statistical and data analysis using tools like Python, ideally in a cloud environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Project management and coordination skills, with the ability to prioritize work
