We are seeking an experienced ecological professional to join our Ecology Team at South and Vale District Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team, including Tree Officers, Heritage Officers, Urban Designers, and Landscape Architects.
The successful candidate will have professional experience in ecology or environmental management and a sound practical knowledge of all aspects of ecology and related legislation. They will be working alongside planning colleagues to provide ecological advice on small and medium-scale development proposals.
Duties will include:
- Providing specialist advice on implementing and enforcing the Council's responsibilities for protected species and habitats.
- Maintaining effective partnerships with environmental organizations and key stakeholders.
- Assisting in responding to the requirements of the Environment Act 2021 relating to Biodiversity Net Gain in the planning process.
The ideal candidate will have a positive team-working approach and be keen to develop their skills. A degree or diploma in ecology or a related discipline is essential, along with a minimum of three years' professional experience in an ecology-related role.
A postgraduate qualification in ecology or a related discipline would be advantageous, as would membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). Experience working in local government and assessing planning applications would also be beneficial.
This is an exciting and varied role that offers a wide range of experiences and skills. The successful candidate will receive a salary of £42,576 - £48,530 per annum, plus benefits including flexible working arrangements, a career-average pension scheme, and access to wellbeing resources.
