Job Summary

We are seeking a Conservation Specialist to join our team, responsible for providing ecological advice to planning colleagues and assisting in the delivery of mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain in the planning process.

This role requires a strong understanding of ecology and related legislation, as well as practical species and habitat surveys skills.

  • As a Conservation Specialist, you will work closely with other specialist advisors to shape the future environment of southern Oxfordshire.
  • You will provide ecological advice to planning colleagues, negotiate with developers, and defend planning decisions at appeals.
  • You will also assist in responding to the requirements of the Environment Act 2021 and developing corporate policies, guidance, and procedures.
Your Essential Qualifications
  • A degree or diploma in ecology or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of three years professional experience in an ecology-related role is necessary.
  • A full and current driving licence and daily use of a car insured for business purposes is essential.
Bonus Experience and Qualifications
  • A postgraduate qualification in ecology or a related discipline would be advantageous.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) would be beneficial.
  • Experience with assessing planning applications would be desirable.

We offer a competitive salary range of £42,576 to £48,530 per annum, flexible working arrangements, and a generous career average pension scheme.
