Job Title: English Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic occupational therapist to lead and develop the Major Trauma Occupational Therapy team. This post is integral to the delivery of high-quality therapeutic care and is crucial to the multidisciplinary team's ability to provide smooth and appropriate discharge planning with the wider community.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead the Occupational Therapy team in your specialist area, responsible for continuing development of a comprehensive, 7-day working specialist occupational therapy service.
  2. Represent Occupational Therapy at Trust-wide and other meetings as required.
  3. Provide day-to-day management, support, supervision, and organization of workload for staff.
  4. Support the Head of Service in the day-to-day management of the department.
  5. Be professionally and legally accountable for actions and work with no supervision.
Key Accountabilities
  1. Ensure patients, relatives, and those you come into contact with are aware of the role of the Occupational Therapist and components of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme.
  2. Obtain informed consent from patients and work within the current legal framework for patients who lack capacity to consent.
  3. Select from a range of assessments to aid diagnosis, addressing trauma management, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, behavioural, motor, splinting, psychosocial needs, and functional abilities.
  4. Make reliable interpretations of assessment results to inform other professionals in the diagnosis and management of patients' needs and guide the Occupational Therapy treatment plan.
  5. Assess for and identify the appropriate type of mechanical lifting device/hoist to be used in a patient's home for discharge.
Person Specification
  • To hold a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Extensive demonstrable experience as an Occupational Therapist in the physical field.
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in the physical field, including demonstrable experience of pressure on wards.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading a Team of Occupational Therapy staff.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Extensive demonstrable experience as an Occupational Therapist in the physical field.
  • Good verbal and written English skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in liaising with community services and caseload management.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Leadership training.
