About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant to join our team at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will support our research group in the investigation of plant organs and their interactions with microorganisms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of research projects related to plant biology and microbiology
  • Conduct experiments and data analysis to generate research outputs for publications
  • Support undergraduate students in their research and lab practice, including data reproducibility, record keeping, and health and safety protocols
  • Maintain and organize plant lines and colonizing organisms for colonization assays
  • Perform basic lab support and maintenance tasks, including pouring plates and maintaining lab stocks and resource databases
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Plant Biology or a related field; a Master's degree is desirable
  • Basic skills in molecular biology techniques, including genotyping PCR, cloning, and bacterial and plant transformation techniques
  • Experience in working with nitrogen-fixing bacteria and/or parasitic root nematodes is desirable
  • Basic skills in microscopy
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and with others, and high degree of accuracy in record keeping
  • Excellent time-keeping, time management, and priority setting skills
