About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Molecular Plant Pathologist to join our team at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB). As a key member of our Plant Pathology department, you will play a vital role in advancing our understanding of plant pathogens and their interactions with crops.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct molecular biology research to understand the mechanisms of plant pathogen infection and resistance to fungicides.
  • Develop and implement molecular techniques to study fungal pathogens and their interactions with plants.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to design and execute research projects aimed at improving crop protection and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the development of new molecular tools and methods for plant pathogen research.
  • Present research findings and contribute to the preparation of peer-reviewed publications.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, plant pathology, genetics) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extractions, PCR, and cloning.
  • Experience in aseptic technique and general microbiology methods.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic data-processing and analysis skills, including dataset compilation and basic statistical analyses.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in isolating and culturing fungi and/or plant pathogens.
  • Background knowledge of plant pathogens and crop protection.
  • Basic bioinformatic analysis skills, including BLAST and gene function analyses.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing or molecular diagnostics.
