About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist input to strategic planning, development, audit, and evaluation of clinical services, protocols, and policies within the occupational therapy specialism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise at an advanced level in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of highly complex clients.
  • Work across with other lead specialist clinicians for the identified area, providing highly specialised advice and programmes of care.
  • Ensure service provision in the occupational therapy specialism is prioritised and service delivery is made effectively within resource constraints.
  • Practice within the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist assessments, diagnosis, and treatment using advanced clinical reasoning.
  • Manage a caseload of clients (often varied and with highly complex needs), using evidence-based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Provide leadership and clinical education for senior, junior, and support staff, through supervision and day-to-day guidance.
  • Plan and implement training at a uni-disciplinary and multi-professional level to enhance services within the specialism and ensure effective clinical practice.
  • Carry out appraisals with junior and support staff, as delegated by Line Manager.
  • Regularly supervise undergraduate students on practice placement and participate in placement experience of other professionals.

About Us

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.
