About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist input to strategic planning, development, audit, and evaluation of clinical services, protocols, and policies within the specialized area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise at an advanced level in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of highly complex clients.
  • Work alongside Clinical Leads, Team Managers, and Operational Manager to provide specialist input to strategic planning, development, audit, and evaluation of clinical services, protocols, and policies within the specialized area.
  • Lead and work with the Community Response Service to ensure that service demand is met with a focus on complex discharge planning.
  • Offer support and supervision to Band 6 staff around discharge planning and ensuring NHCT policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure an appropriate deployment of staff within the team, ensuring an appropriate skill mix across the units.
  • Provide support, direction, and guidance on a day-to-day basis to staff team members and other external agencies.
  • Promote and ensure safe working practice for all team members, both within the office environment and in the wider community.
  • Facilitate student placements within the team, including nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, trainee doctors, etc.
  • Ensure assessments of need are undertaken.
  • Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.

Person Specification

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • State registered with Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Post Graduate training relevant to specialist area.
  • Practice placement qualification (desirable).
