Civil Engineer Graduate Programme Overview

We're National Grid Electricity Distribution, the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England, and South Wales. Our expert teams deliver heat, light, and power for homes and businesses.

The Major Projects team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the 132kV electricity network, comprising overhead lines, underground cables, and substations. This role is technical, requiring excellent communication with a broad range of colleagues and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organise and monitor individual tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • Minimise risk to the security of the distribution network.
  • Identify training needs of team members and provide training in civil activities.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in performance and implement or recommend changes.
Graduate Programme

As a graduate on our 18-month programme, you'll have a tailored development pathway to support your growth. You'll attend in-person and virtual development sessions to equip you with essential skills. We're committed to your personal development, with access to 121 coaching and a mentor from a previous cohort.

All graduates complete the core development programme to develop key skills, including presentation skills and working safely. Aligned to this role is our Engineering pathway, where you'll develop further technical skills and important learning modules.

Requirements

You'll need a minimum 2:2 in an Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, Sciences, or Data Sciences degree discipline. A full valid UK driving license is also required, as you'll need to travel to site locations.

You'll need flexibility to travel within the role and throughout your rotations as required. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate they'll have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the graduate programme.

What We Offer

We're proud to offer a graduate starting salary of £34,895. You'll also receive a £2,000 bonus, 26 days holiday, and up to £200 per month accommodation allowance.
