About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Medical Oncologist to join our dynamic team at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, part of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive Oncology Service, collaborating with consultant colleagues to develop and manage site-specialised cancer services.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours service and provide acute oncology care.
  • Supervise and manage junior medical staff, undertaking teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, continuing medical education, and the annual appraisal process, undertaking an annual job planning review.
  • Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
About Us

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, which are located 20 minutes' drive apart.

Person Specification
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent qualification for Medical Oncology.
  • Higher research degree in a cancer-related subject.
  • Evidence of postgraduate study in the specialty with an appropriate postgraduate qualification.

Applicants must have full registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) and be on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Previous experience in the management of one or more of the following sites: Upper GI, Urology, Colorectal, Acute Oncology is essential. The ability to take full responsibility for clinical care of patients and evidence of achievement of competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice are also required.
