Job Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to work within our Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) Team in West Mercia.

The MHTR Team provides psychological assessments and interventions to individuals with mental health difficulties who have come into contact with criminal justice services.

The team aims to prevent short-term custodial sentences and reduce reoffending by improving access to psychological interventions and addressing underlying mental health problems.

Main Duties

This post is based in West Mercia, working with a hybrid approach, so travel may be required at times across your allocated area.

Current vacancies are to cover the courts and probation offices across Telford & Shrewsbury and Worcester & Redditch.

You will:

  1. Support a Practitioner Psychologist in the development and evaluation of new service delivery models for individuals with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.
  2. Assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment of a service user's problems.

Job Responsibilities

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for undertaking assessments, formulating service users' needs and delivering psychological interventions, under the supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.

An understanding of the needs of people with a diagnosis of personality disorder, mental illness, and/or learning disabilities is needed in this role, with the ability to communicate sensitive information to the patient, carer and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
