Exciting Opportunity for Assistant Psychologist

This is an exciting opportunity for an eager and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join our inpatient mental health services. Our team provides a clinical psychology service to clients referred to the inpatients service, working independently and collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality care.

The successful candidate will perform a range of duties under the direct supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, including direct patient contact, indirect clinical support, clinically related administrative support, literature searches, and research-related activities. They will also assist with teaching and training activities, as required.

Main Responsibilities

  • To assist in the provision of a clinical psychology service to clients referred to the inpatients service.
  • To work independently according to a plan agreed with the Ward Manager and Ward Psychologist and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.
  • To help recover service provision following COVID-19 related disruption.
  • To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
  • To support colleagues within inpatients mental health services, for example, via one-to-one or group intervention.
  • To provide input to, as required, therapeutic groups (including on digital platforms).

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • Honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Experience:

  • Experience of work with people in a clinical or other supportive environment.
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or substance/alcohol abuse.
  • Experience of inpatient work.
  • Previous experience as an assistant psychologist or Allied health professional assistant.
  • Experience of working with people experiencing psychological trauma.
  • Experience of working with families.
  • Experience of group working.
