Job Title: Band 6 Team Leader

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality nursing and perioperative practice within the General cluster, covering Upper GI, Colorectal, and Sarcoma specialities. As a Band 6 Team Leader, you will be responsible for deputising for the Lead Theatre Practitioner and supporting the leadership and management of the department, with a focus on quality and clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Continuing clinical responsibility for managing the operating theatre cluster in the absence of the Lead Theatre Practitioner
  • Understanding finances, deployment, delegation, and supervision of all grades of staff
  • Ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high-standard holistic, patient-centred care
  • Teaching and mentoring nursing and operating department practitioner students, junior registered and unregistered staff, volunteers, and work experience candidates
  • Participating in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate
Requirements:
  • NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation/processes equivalent to postgraduate level
  • Understanding of human resource management associated with codes of practice/professional and Trust guidelines
  • Team building/teamwork, physical/human resource management, change management
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information/medical conditions with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Mental Capacity Act/Safeguarding principles applied to the theatre practice setting
