Job Overview

The Law Society is seeking a Governance Officer to join its team, supporting the elected and appointed members who are solicitors drawn from various legal practices and sectors.

This role involves ensuring excellent service to the Council, Board, and Committees, including drafting agendas, minutes, and workplans, as well as collating and distributing meeting materials electronically.

As a Governance Officer, you will provide a secretariat service to sub-committees of the Board and/or Council, covering a range of matters central to the Law Society's work and its relationship with the profession and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the Governance team in ensuring excellent service to the Council, Board, and Committees
  2. Draft agendas, minutes, workplans, and action lists
  3. Collate and distribute meeting materials electronically
  4. Assist with appointment and reappointment processes for committee members and chairs

Requirements

You will have proven experience in a governance or related role, with a strong understanding of how a successful governance team operates.

Excellent minute-taking skills, organisational, and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to work flexibly in response to changing priorities.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including dealing with demanding individuals and competing priorities, are also required, as well as a high level of attention to detail.
