Job Summary

This is a new consultant hepatology expansion post which is supported by the investment in the Hinckley Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The CDC will operate 7 days a week and will offer an extensive set of diagnostic services including endoscopy to meet the healthcare needs of the local population of Hinckley and its surroundings.

The post holder will be joining a team of 5 hepatologists and 2 CNS's. We work closely with infectious diseases in relation to the viral hepatitis clinics, with UHL being the hub for the local hepatitis C treatment network.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
  • Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff.
  • Be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
  • Teaching, research and administration.
  • Proactively develop the service.
  • Endoscopy and outpatient sessions across the UHL sites and into the community hospitals.
  • Ward rounds, GI bleed on call.

Job Responsibilities

To provide Consultant Hepatology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester. To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care, as prescribed in GMC guidance Duties of a Doctor, at all times; and ensuring that bad practice is reported, as appropriate.

The consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge and for the proper organisation and functioning of their clinical practice.

To liaise closely with other specialities, departments and outside agencies in contributing to the objectives of the department.

It is expected that the post holder will take part in the Departments on-call rota for In-reach and GI Bleed on-call, as well as participating in the ward cover for 21 inpatient hepatology beds across Wards 42 and 43 at the LRI site.

  • Fully accredited for higher specialist training or will be eligible within 6 months.

Experience

  • Ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.

  • Post CCT fellowship in hepatology.
