Role Overview

BAE Systems is a leading provider of defence, security, and aerospace solutions. We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Systems Engineer to join our team.

This role will be heavily focused on the safety aspects during the product design process. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of different analysis techniques and their application in various standards.

Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Attending and reporting to daily stand-up meetings (DSUM)
  • Design activities, including requirement elicitation workshops, applying Product Safety Recognised Good Practice, hazard identification, risk reduction, and defining suitable design options
  • Applying a systems engineering approach to safety products, including working within a centralized modelling tool
  • Leading and coordinating a small safety team as required
  • Preparing safety assessments to support system design and development
  • Providing safety SME to product design and gate reviews
  • Governing and assuring parts of the organization

This role also involves supporting the development and maintenance of a healthy product safety culture within the team and wider business.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Familiarity with UK Defence Standards and publications, such as Defence Standard 00-56 and Defence Standard 00-55
  • A good working knowledge of safety analysis techniques, including Functional Hazard Assessment, Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and System Theoretic Process Analysis
  • A STEM degree with product safety experience within a regulated industry
  • A good working knowledge of IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511 for complex software and hardware safety instrumented systems

Estimated Salary

The estimated salary for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
