Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Consultant in Infection to join our team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Infection Service, you will provide expert clinical advice and guidance to clinicians and other stakeholders, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical input to patients, contribute to multidisciplinary teams, and lead the coordination of care for patients within Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
  • Be involved in the management of patients on the Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service.
  • Contribute to the Undergraduate Teaching of medical students and the clinical supervision of Higher Specialist Scientific Training.
  • Participate in the Infection Service Consultant on-call rota for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Assume a continuous commitment to patient care, ensuring adequate arrangements are made for leave and off-duty periods.
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both direct patient care and by maintaining continuing professional development.
  • Develop links with General Practitioners operating in the area.

The Microbiology Laboratory at Royal Preston Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility, accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service. Our equipment includes BactAlert Blood Culture System, Vitek 2 organism identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing system, and Maldi-Tof mass spectrometer for organism identification.

We are committed to providing high-quality patient care and are dedicated to the training and development of our staff. As a Consultant in Infection, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals and contribute to the delivery of excellent patient care.

Requirements
  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), in microbiology or joint CCT in infectious diseases and microbiology, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
