About the Role

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Non-Executive Director to join our Board of Directors. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the Trust and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of core strategies, setting the strategic direction for the Trust.
  • Seek assurance over the delivery of strategies, including the appropriate prioritisation of the Trust's resource allocation.
  • Provide constructive challenge and support as appropriate to hold the Chief Executive and Executive Directors to account and support effective decision-making as part of a unitary Board.
  • Seek assurance over the performance of the Trust.
  • Develop positive and productive relationships with the Council of Governors, supporting Governor colleagues to hold Non-Executive Directors to account for the performance of the Board.
  • Seek assurance that the patient voice informs the work of the Board.
  • Be a visible leader, embodying the values of the Trust and its clinically-led and management-supported philosophy.

About Us

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of acute, community, and older people's mental health services to our local community and beyond. We employ over 5,100 people and have over 400 hospital beds across the Gateshead area. Our philosophy is that to achieve the best patient care and outcomes, we must be clinically-led and management-supported.

We have three main strategic ambitions: to be a Northern Centre of Excellence for Women's Health, to be a leading provider of diagnostic services, and to be an outstanding district general hospital. Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with a clinical qualification or sound knowledge of NHS finance, who shares our values and is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate, and joined-up care to communities. Previous Board-level experience is desirable but not essential.
