Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering expert nursing services in the specialist area of colorectal care. This will involve working autonomously as an advanced practitioner, developing and delivering patient pathways and clinical diagnostic protocols, and supporting the colorectal CNS team in both surgical and oncology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver patient pathways and clinical diagnostic protocols
  • Support the colorectal CNS team in both surgical and oncology
  • Manage a caseload of patients/clients
  • Provide clinical and social support to patients and their families
  • Assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice
  • Establish clear lines of communication within the specialty team
  • Link with healthcare teams to increase knowledge and facilitate care
  • Present patient caseload and follow up at weekly LGI MDT meetings
  • Deliver eHNA tailored for each patient
  • Develop own nurse-led telephone clinics
  • Support the Trust in achieving compliance with Direct-to-Test, Urgent Suspected Cancer, and Referral to Treatment waiting time targets
  • Support the Lower GI surgical care pathway
  • Be actively involved in Peer Review and ensure mandatory measures are met
  • Request and interpret investigatory results and determine the next pathway stage
  • Perform Holistic Needs Assessment and End of treatment summaries on every patient diagnosed with colorectal cancer
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • NMC Level 1 or Level 15 Registered Nurse
  • Advanced practitioner qualification or extensive clinical experience
  • Degree (BSc) or equivalent in a health-related subject
  • Strong leadership skills and experience as an autonomous practitioner
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of local and national specialist guidelines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build rapport with patients and the MDT
  • Relevant, demonstrable experience in specialty area
  • Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives, and carers
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures, clinical governance, and risk assessment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literacy and a patient-centred approach
  • Basic counselling skills or undertaken Advanced Clinical Communication Skills
