Job Title: NHS Specialist Health Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Gastroenterology CNS team at Barts Health NHS Trust at Whipps Cross Hospital site.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a seamless nurse specialist service for patients with upper GI and hepatobiliary malignancy.
  • Provide expert care and advice to deliver high-quality, clinically effective care throughout the patient pathway.
  • Develop and provide Nurse-Led clinics for patients presenting with new onset jaundice, Upper GI and hepatobiliary cancer.
Person Specification:
  • Essential:
    • Demonstrate competence and professional development at band 6 or band 7 in Gastroenterology and/or cancer care.
    • Good working knowledge of treatment of GI and hepatobiliary cancers from diagnosis through to end-of-life treatment.
  • Desirable:
    • Evidence of specialist knowledge in Upper GI and Hepatobiliary cancer.
    • Accredited oncology course Level 2 psychology training.
    • Previous CNS experience in UGI/HPB or an unrelated/related field.
    • Show willingness to lead on clinical trials.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Essential:
    • Evidence of specialist knowledge in Upper GI and Hepatobiliary cancer.
    • Proven clinical skills in Oncology.
    • Knowledge of GI/HPB cancer pathways.
    • Demonstrates a belief in patient-centred philosophy of care.
    • Demonstrates experience of quality assurance activity.

  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge and awareness of British Gastroenterology Society, NICE guidelines in relation to Upper GI and Hepatobiliary Cancer.
