Shift Plant Operator

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Shift Plant Operator to join our team at Veolia. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our Energy Recovery Facility (ERF).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide shift coverage to ensure continuous ERF operation and maintain high levels of plant availability.
- Assist the Shift Team Leader in monitoring and operating plant from the Central Control Room, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Coordinate control room operations to achieve consistent power production and steam turbine operation, minimizing downtime and optimizing energy output.
- Take immediate corrective action during emergencies to limit risks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Monitor and control process parameters, raw materials usage, and environmental emissions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Safely shut down and restart plant sections according to procedures, minimizing downtime and optimizing maintenance schedules.
- Perform emergency operations during unit trips and abnormal conditions, ensuring a swift and safe response.
- Carry out lockout-tagout isolations and understand applied risk hazards, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Permit and report non-compliance, maintaining a high level of environmental stewardship.
- Conduct routine plant inspections, adjustments, and data collection, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to optimize plant performance.
Requirements
- IT literate with a strong understanding of current environmental and health and safety issues.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical plant, with experience of plant operations and ideally an engineering background.
- Experience gained through working in a continuous process environment, preferably with experience of working shifts.
- Able to operate, or train to operate, a variety of auxiliary and fixed plant.
- Able to work a continuous rotating shift pattern, including adequate voluntary overtime to cover the workload and colleagues' absences.
- Self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
- An effective team member, able to communicate well orally and in writing.
- Flexible, with a creative approach to problem-solving.
