About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shift Plant Operator to join our team at Veolia ES (UK) LIMITED. As a Shift Plant Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the continuous operation of our Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) and contributing to our mission of creating a more sustainable future for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide shift coverage to ensure continuous ERF operation and maintain a high level of plant availability.
  • Assist the Shift Team Leader in monitoring and operating plant from the Central Control Room, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate control room operations to achieve consistent power production and steam turbine operation, while minimizing environmental emissions.
  • Take immediate corrective action during emergencies to limit risks and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Monitor and control process parameters, raw materials usage, and environmental emissions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Safely shut down and restart plant sections according to procedures, and perform emergency operations during unit trips and abnormal conditions.
  • Carry out lockout-tagout isolations and understand applied risk hazards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Permit and report non-compliance to relevant authorities.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections, adjustments, and data collection to maintain a high level of plant performance and efficiency.
Requirements
  • IT Literate with a strong understanding of current environmental and health and safety issues.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical plant operations, with experience in a continuous process environment.
  • Ability to operate a variety of auxiliary and fixed plant, and work a continuous rotating shift pattern, including adequate voluntary overtime to cover the workload and colleagues' absences.
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision, and an effective team member, able to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Flexible, with a creative approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
