Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Policy Manager to join our team at Vox Network Consultants. As a key member of our transportation team, you will play a crucial role in developing and managing transportation policies and strategies that support the Council's Long Term Transport Strategy and Local Implementation Plan.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Developing and agreeing strategic transport policies and initiatives with the Transportation Manager.
  2. Identifying and assessing opportunities to maximise inward investment and support the implementation of Harrow's Long Term Transport Strategy.
  3. Working with colleagues to ensure timely delivery of Section 106 funding from developers towards the provision of transport improvements.
  4. Progress monitoring and reporting on policies and management of programme budgets in conjunction with the Transportation Manager.
  5. Leading on the review of Council Transport policy and promoting behaviour change to encourage more sustainable and active travel.
  6. Presenting projects, policies and strategies at meetings and events as needed, which may include evening and weekend working from time to time.
  7. Attending site visits with Council officers, members and members of the public.
  8. Providing support to other Council departments in relation to projects meeting the aims of the Long Term Transport Strategy.
  9. Maintaining and improving existing knowledge of local and national planning and transport policies.
  10. Preparing reports and representing the Transportation service at Committees and other meetings as required.
  11. Providing assistance to the Transportation Manager and senior management as directed.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the key principles and practices of transport planning schemes including road safety, traffic management, bus priority, parking, cycling and pedestrian provision.
  2. Knowledge of transport planning issues nationally, regionally and locally.
  3. Experience of working in a transport planning environment with demonstrable policy development experience in the public or private sectors, supported by relevant professional qualifications.
  4. Understanding of the political content and environment of Local Government.
  5. Experience of building support and maintaining a high level of commitment from stakeholders to ensure that the organisation's wider aims are met.
  6. Able to work with minimum supervision and to take the initiative in solving work related problems.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  8. Able to work as part of a team, be cooperative and helpful.

Qualifications

Educated to advanced level or equivalent or has the equivalent relevant work experience.
