About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Planner to join our team at Lanpro, where you will play a key role in delivering planning advice to clients and developing core competencies and technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice on planning applications and projects, leveraging your expertise and experience to drive successful outcomes.
  • Develop and refine commercial management, client relationship, and business development skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Contribute to technical excellence in the team, supervising and mentoring colleagues as needed, and maintaining and developing your own technical expertise.
  • Review and direct the work of other professional staff, and may direct a small team or unique element of a project.
  • Build and maintain a network of internal and external colleagues to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Apply your technical knowledge to ensure the best outcome for clients, and build and consolidate networks within the industry to enhance understanding and knowledge of expertise.
  • Act as an ambassador for great client experience, both internal and external, and make a positive contribution to bids and project proposals.
  • Undertake work requiring the application of principles in a wide range of contexts, demonstrating creativity in applying solutions.
  • Look to achieve continuous improvement across the services we provide to our clients through innovative approaches to ways of working, solutions, and outcomes.
  • Be responsible for the work of others and the allocation of resources, and accountable for own budgetary, quality, safety, and timeframe targets for projects.
  • Aware of and compliant with Health and Safety procedures to ensure projects are compliant with these.
  • Establish own milestones, deadlines, and team objectives, delegating responsibility to ensure projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective way.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and other third parties involved in projects to ensure both client and Lanpro interests are safeguarded.
  • May direct and monitor technical aspects of specific segments of major projects or oversee smaller projects.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.
  • Conduct research and undertake comprehensive planning appraisals to establish the development potential of sites.
  • Write high-quality reports with clear recommendations.
  • Provide guidance to engineers and architects on the production of drawings and supplemental planning information in relation to planning submissions.
  • Prepare fee proposals to generate new business.
  • Review Local Planning Authority (LPA) Local Plans and their stage of production.
  • Manage community engagement committee meetings and public examinations.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders involved in the planning process and negotiate positive outcomes for the client.
Requirements
  • An RTPI-accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline.
  • Preferably a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or working towards it.
  • Ideally at least two years post-qualification experience in a relevant role.
  • Have spent at least two years working in the planning industry in either the public or private sectors.

  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong report writing skills and experience of delivering recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning process.
