We have an opening for a Marine Engineer Officer to join our team and serve aboard an RFA vessel. This role involves managing the organisation and activities of the Marine Engineering Department, as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delegate tasks and assign duties to members of the Marine Engineering Department.
  • Inform the Chief Engineer of any engineering defects affecting the vessel's operational capability.
  • Be responsible for the effectiveness, welfare, and discipline of departmental personnel.
  • Ensure continuous training within the Marine Engineering Department, meeting statutory and RFA requirements.
  • Assume training responsibilities for Cadets of the Marine Engineering specialisation when no CTO is present.
  • Assist the Executive Officer in planning and organising whole ship training serials.
  • Implement Health and Safety at Work Regulations and the Code of Safe Working Practices applicable to the Marine Engineering Department.
  • Apply the international standard for safe management and operation of ships and pollution prevention (ISM) and implement RFA Regulations for Royal Fleet Auxiliaries.
  • Act as First or Second Appraisal Officer for members of the Marine Engineering Department as appropriate.
  • Promptly address misconduct in accordance with procedures laid down in PRGs.
  • Manage the proper operation, maintenance, and preservation of machinery, equipment, and areas under the Marine Engineering Department's responsibility.
  • Ensure marine engineering evolutions are carried out in compliance with statutory regulations and RFA Policy.
  • Maintain deck machinery, lift machinery, hoists, replenishment machinery, mechanical handling equipment, ship's boat engines, and associated systems.
  • Perform routine testing, maintenance, and inspection of fixed firefighting and safety equipment.
  • Prepare and advise the Maintenance Manager on Marine Engineering Department Alterations and Additions (A&As).
  • Manage Engine Room Watch Keeping and PMS (UMS) requirements to meet RFA and MCA regulations for safe and efficient operation and upkeep of machinery affecting the ship's safety.
  • Maintain permanent on-board aviation technical facilities and associated systems, excluding communications systems.
Requirements
  • Minimum Second Engineer (Unlimited) qualification.
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties certification (5-year refresher course).
  • STCW Elementary First Aid certification.
  • DP Maintainer Course completion (preferable) or willingness to undergo training.
  • Unrestricted ENG1 certification.
  • Valid passport.
