Key Responsibilities- Delegate tasks and assign duties to members of the Marine Engineering Department.
- Inform the Chief Engineer of any engineering defects affecting the vessel's operational capability.
- Be responsible for the effectiveness, welfare, and discipline of departmental personnel.
- Ensure continuous training within the Marine Engineering Department, meeting statutory and RFA requirements.
- Assume training responsibilities for Cadets of the Marine Engineering specialisation when no CTO is present.
- Assist the Executive Officer in planning and organising whole ship training serials.
- Implement Health and Safety at Work Regulations and the Code of Safe Working Practices applicable to the Marine Engineering Department.
- Apply the international standard for safe management and operation of ships and pollution prevention (ISM) and implement RFA Regulations for Royal Fleet Auxiliaries.
- Act as First or Second Appraisal Officer for members of the Marine Engineering Department as appropriate.
- Promptly address misconduct in accordance with procedures laid down in PRGs.
- Manage the proper operation, maintenance, and preservation of machinery, equipment, and areas under the Marine Engineering Department's responsibility.
- Ensure marine engineering evolutions are carried out in compliance with statutory regulations and RFA Policy.
- Maintain deck machinery, lift machinery, hoists, replenishment machinery, mechanical handling equipment, ship's boat engines, and associated systems.
- Perform routine testing, maintenance, and inspection of fixed firefighting and safety equipment.
- Prepare and advise the Maintenance Manager on Marine Engineering Department Alterations and Additions (A&As).
- Manage Engine Room Watch Keeping and PMS (UMS) requirements to meet RFA and MCA regulations for safe and efficient operation and upkeep of machinery affecting the ship's safety.
- Maintain permanent on-board aviation technical facilities and associated systems, excluding communications systems.
- Minimum Second Engineer (Unlimited) qualification.
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Advanced Fire Fighting certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties certification (5-year refresher course).
- STCW Elementary First Aid certification.
- DP Maintainer Course completion (preferable) or willingness to undergo training.
- Unrestricted ENG1 certification.
- Valid passport.
