Job Title: Customs Compliance Specialist

Job Summary:

NC Associates is seeking a highly skilled Customs Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our international trade team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all imports and exports comply with relevant customs laws, regulations, and international trade agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all import and export activities comply with relevant customs laws, regulations, and international trade agreements.
  • Documentation Management: Obtain and review all necessary documentation relating to customs clearance, including bills of lading, certificates of origin, and other required documents.
  • Tariff Classification: Accurately classify goods according to the UK Trade Tariff and EU CN Codes to determine applicable duties and taxes.
  • Internal Audits: Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance with customs regulations and identify potential risks or areas for improvement.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to minimize compliance risks, including the assessment of potential penalties and fines.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, government agencies, and internal departments to ensure smooth customs clearance processes.
  • Team Training & Development: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on customs compliance procedures and regulatory updates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on changes in customs regulations and industry best practices to ensure the company's compliance strategy and internal regulation remains effective and up to date.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an international customs compliance position is essential.
  • An in-depth understanding and knowledge of international customs regulations, the UK Trade Tariff, CN codes, Free Trade Agreements (FTA), and other relevant trade compliance frameworks.
  • Advanced analytical skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • The ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with various internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • The ability to confidently provide guidance and make business-critical decisions relating to customs compliance.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
  • A desire to continue to develop within a customs compliance career route.
  • Previous experience of working in the oil and gas sector is highly advantageous, although not essential.
