About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Hydraulic Modeller to join our team at JBA Consulting. As a key member of our Catchment and River Restoration teams, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clients in delivering innovative and effective solutions for natural flood management and river restoration projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental hydraulic models, including 1D and 2D modelling, using software such as HEC-RAS and TUFLOW.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external clients on river and catchment restoration projects.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to steer design and ensure effective project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Conduct site-based field work, including geomorphology, river restoration, and NFM focused field work.
  • Mentor and support junior staff to develop their skills and expertise.
  • Present at client meetings, project workshops, and stakeholder engagement events to communicate project findings and recommendations.
  • Assist with and lead on tender preparation and project delivery.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in environmental hydraulic modelling, with a strong understanding of UK catchment hydrology.
  • Proficient in at least one 1D hydraulic modelling software and one 2D hydraulic modelling software.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary design team, with the ability to explain environmental benefits to a wide audience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM, CGeog) is highly valued by JBA Consulting and our clients.
Desirable Skills
  • Project management experience, with the ability to lead and deliver projects to time, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Understanding of sediment transport, erosion, and deposition processes.
  • Contract management and tender preparation experience.
