Laboratory Support Associate

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant Specialist to join their Pathology Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling blood and body fluids, assisting in research and development, and maintaining high standards of technical work in the department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory work, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Main Duties:
The key responsibilities of this role include maintaining and fostering the highest possible standards of technical work in the department, ensuring compliance with UKAS, HSE, and HTA standards. This will involve general laboratory surface cleaning, despatch of unprocessed (fixed) tissue to outside agencies, and receipt of specimens. You will also prepare cut-up and assist medical dissection of specimens, ensure that the digital dictation system is working correctly, and take responsibility for the digital photography of gross specimens at cut-up and downloading onto the Telepath system.
Key Skills:
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. They will also have a strong background in laboratory work, including experience with UKAS, HSE, and HTA standards. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Benefits:
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. They will also have access to comprehensive training and development opportunities, including formal and informal CPD activities and educational and training courses.
