Job Title: Conservation Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Conservation Officer to join our team at the Highland Council. As a key member of our built heritage team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on the conservation of historic buildings and areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the provision of building conservation advice to the planning service, developers, and agents on proposals that impact Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas.
  • Develop and deliver conservation area reviews, appraisals, and management plans.
  • Liaise with local and national partners, stakeholders, and respond to enquiries from Council services, elected Members, developers, and the public.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years' practical experience working in a similar role.
  • A degree and/or post-graduate degree in Building Conservation, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, i.e., the Institute for Historic Building Conservation.
  • A full UK driving licence or access to transport.
