Paper Conservator

We are seeking a highly skilled Paper Conservator to join our team at the Nationalmuseums in Edinburgh. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for the conservation and care of our extensive archive collection, which includes paper-based materials, photographs, and other artifacts.
Your primary focus will be on delivering high-quality conservation projects, including interventive conservation treatments for objects that fall outside your area of expertise. You will work closely with our Archivist and colleagues to ensure the highest standards of collections care in the archive and library spaces.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering paper conservation projects, including condition surveying and implementing solutions for safe transport and public access.
- Maintenance of the collection, including documenting archival material and completing documentation in our collections management database.
- Developing methodologies for documenting archival material and keeping abreast of sector developments in paper and archive conservation.
- Undertaking research and writing for publications and social media to enhance our knowledge of the collection and inform working practices.
We are looking for a candidate with a degree in Paper Conservation or a related field, and significant experience in the museums sector. You should have excellent interpersonal skills, a good network of contacts, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
