Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join the new NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London) in the role of Youth Worker.

The Youth Worker will play an important role in supporting young people and their families through the service. The role involves managing a caseload of young people with complex needs, ensuring an effective care pathway is taken for individual children and young people, and their families.

The salary for this position includes a minimum payment of £41,500 per annum for Inner London, subject to a 20% supplement of basic salary, and a maximum payment of £54,600 per post. For posts based in Outer London, the above salaries include a 15% supplement of the basic salary, with a minimum payment of £35,800 and a maximum payment of £42,300.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate must be a qualified youth worker, or registered nurse, or qualified social worker, or qualified teacher, or qualified health play specialist. They must have completed a child protection qualification and hold a relevant Honours degree. A commitment to completing a relevant Masters degree is also desirable.

Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years' experience working with children and families, as well as experience in operational management and managing organisational change.

This is a part-time role, requiring 2 days per week (WTE). Working day options are Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, to be agreed and fixed on appointment.

Young people will receive an in-depth assessment of their needs, and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people may be offered a range of care interventions such as therapy, family therapy, physical health support, or mental health support for any identified difficulties they may want help with. The team will also liaise with health professionals in local services nearer to the child or young person.

The NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service will continue to evolve as more learning, research, and evidence are developed in this area. Therefore, we encourage applications from individuals with a passion for service improvement, audit, and research.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The main duties of the job involve providing patient support to children and young people who are gender questioning, supporting their journey and experience within the service. You will create a welcoming, safe, and secure environment for young people and their families while maintaining the emotional and psychological well-being of children and young people.

You will also increase awareness, understanding, and knowledge of the youth team's work and how our services help children and young people during their care journey, both internally and externally.
