About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Development Underwriter to join our team at Markel International Services Ltd. As a Development Underwriter, you will play a key role in supporting the development plan for brokers across the UK, focusing on the Central and South East regions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional underwriting services to brokers, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels.
  • Underwrite complex new business within defined underwriting authority, ensuring profitability objectives are met.
  • Actively manage and maintain strong broker relationships, providing an efficient new business service to achieve best outcomes and win business.
  • Develop new broker relationships, working closely with the Broker Development Director to demonstrate Markel's capabilities as a preferred provider of insurance.
  • Contribute to the Head of Financial Lines' reporting on broker activity and new business production, providing quarterly updates on key performance criteria.
  • Maintain accurate broker data on the CRM system, ensuring seamless collaboration with the team.
  • Promote a coaching and mentoring culture, supporting team members in delivering a high-quality underwriting service.
Requirements
  • Proven underwriting experience in a relevant role, with demonstrable technical skills.
  • Track record of building and developing broker relationships.
  • Background and experience in Professional Indemnity and Directors and Officers classes of business desirable.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills, including MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM.
  • Proven ability to win business while maintaining underwriting field.
