Job Title: Development Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Development Underwriter to join our team at PIB Group. As a key member of our childcare specialist business, Morton Michel, you will play a crucial role in supporting our direct and wholesale teams with underwriting referrals and enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deal with underwriting referrals for new business quotations, mid-term adjustments, and renewals in line with agreed delegated underwriting authority guidelines.
  • Handle technical team queries by phone and email within agreed authority limits.
  • Conduct triage on system-generated renewals and identify policies that require additional information prior to renewal terms being generated.
  • Approach insurers with referrals on scenarios that are outside of our Delegated Authority in terms of pricing, coverage, and policy conditions.
  • Be organised with work allocation and prioritise where necessary, while regularly reporting to the Product and Proposition Manager.
  • Adhere to compliance and regulatory procedures.
  • Ensure team KPIs, service standards, and targets are achieved and exceeded where possible.
  • Be responsible for the oversight and reporting of Technical QA, as well as other ad hoc reporting as required by the business.
  • Be actively involved in assisting with coaching and providing training content, promoting a culture of excellent customer service, team performance, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Proven underwriting experience and previous knowledge of delegated authority schemes.
  • Experience of working within a regulated FCA environment.
  • Ability to understand and implement 'best practice' in customer service.
  • Good experience using bespoke systems, preferably including Acturis.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, coupled with excellent time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt, and be flexible in approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, listening, and negotiation, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
