Adoptions Engineer Job Description

Bellway is a leading house builder in the UK, and we are seeking an experienced Adoptions Engineer to join our East Midlands Division's Technical team.

The Role

The Adoptions Engineer will be responsible for the adoption of roads, sewers, pumping stations, and public open areas on our developments. This role will involve working closely with local authorities, water companies, and the Environment Agency to ensure that all adoptions standards are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Remedial management and supervision of road, sewer, and footpath construction and final surfacing works.
  • Ensuring the adoption of roads, sewers, pumping stations, and open spaces covered under Section 38 and S278 and Section 102 and 104.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD to produce adoption plans for highways, sewers, and open space areas.
  • Liaising with local authorities, water companies, and the Environment Agency.
  • Ensuring all adoptions standards are met prior to legal completion of all new homes.
  • Working within an agreed programme of adoptions.
  • Collaborating with external legal teams to ensure all legal agreements, including section agreements and deed of easements, are completed in a timely manner.
  • Attending and participating in pre-start meetings, progress site meetings, and other meetings as required to review and assess progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to other internal departments and colleagues to ensure that any remediation works on site are cost-effective and on programme.
  • Sharing knowledge and assisting other staff members in carrying out their duties.
  • Linking between the technical and construction departments on engineering matters.
Requirements
  • Experience of working as an Adoptions Engineer within construction/housebuilding.
  • Sound working knowledge of all CAD and other software civil engineering packages.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations, LABC/NHBC requirements, and Codes of Practice.
  • Knowledge of specific design and specification features with regards to road and sewer agreements and maximizing value to the Company.
Qualifications and Training
  • HNC/HND in a building-related topic.
  • CSCS card or equivalent.

  • Strong communication, listening, and presentation skills with the ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.

  • IT literate and the ability to adapt to new systems within the technical environment.

The Role and Working Conditions
  • Willing to be flexible in respect to day-to-day duties and hours worked.
  • Office-based role, with regular travel to development sites as and when required.
  • Ability to travel to all development sites within Divisional area.
