Study Skills Lecturer Role

Global Applied Knowledge is seeking a Study Skills Lecturer to support students in developing effective learning strategies. The successful candidate will deliver workshops and one-on-one sessions focusing on academic skills, including writing, research, time management, and exam preparation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with academic teams to teach academic literacies and digital skills, providing assignment support as directed.
  • Design and document bespoke courses, digital resources, and workshop plans to develop study skills in the curriculum.
  • Deliver and evaluate teaching, identifying areas for improvement and recommending changes to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring compliance with relevant systems and monitoring student attendance.
  • Participate in and lead CPD to maintain currency in specialist areas and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Provide feedback on individual and class progress in academic writing and other relevant study skills.
  • Offer tutorial consultations with students, providing constructive comments and suggesting ways to improve their work.
  • Record details from these appointments for statistical, evaluation, and quality purposes.

Student Experience:

  • Contribute to the enhancement of the student experience.
  • Promote high levels of student performance in accordance with Global Applied Knowledge's strategic aims and objectives.
  • Represent Global Applied Knowledge to enhance student support and ensure the achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Engage with the wider Global Applied Knowledge to support and represent the activities of the Learning and Teaching Department.

Planning & Organisation:

  • Carry out the administration and organisation of course contributions, materials production, and bespoke courses.
  • Contribute to Global Applied Knowledge's quality assurance systems and processes.
  • Work with academic teams to support the achievement of academic and project objectives.
  • Engage with staff management processes and maintain information and documentation on the delivery of duties.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the framework for Academic Support, taking account of student and staff feedback.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree and/or a PhD in the relevant area.
  • Successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes.
  • Proven experience of providing individual and group study skills support in response to identified learning needs.
  • Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development, such as reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, or project and dissertation support.
  • High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Expertise in digital educational resources development.
  • Course design and curriculum development experience.
  • DELTA qualification or Advance HE Fellowship.
