About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt) to join our team at Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing and leading our quarrying operations, ensuring safety and operational standards are met, and driving performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a highly skilled team to ensure business continuity and reduce risk
  • Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
  • Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material, and knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals
  • Manage all aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations, and maintain and implement existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training staff on the same
  • Manage the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all site equipment, with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
  • Report and investigate any unsafe or hazardous working practices, and issue safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
  • Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff, and collate and report on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit

Requirements

  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
  • Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
  • Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
