Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt)

Tarmac is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our operations team at our Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Caldercruix, Airdrie. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all quarrying operations, ensuring safety and operational standards are met, and driving performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and develop a highly skilled team to ensure business continuity and reduce risk
  • Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
  • Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material, and knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals
  • Manage all aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations, and maintain and implement existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training staff on the same
  • Manage and oversee the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all site equipment, with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
  • Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices, and issuing safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
  • Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff, and collating and reporting on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
  • Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
  • Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multitask and manage change
