About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Health Specialist to join our team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our Wellbeing, Public Health, and Communities Team, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing strategies to improve the mental wellbeing of people across Essex.

As a Public Health Specialist, you will work closely with our public health consultant to develop and implement a plan of evidence-based interventions to deliver strategic priorities for improving mental wellbeing. This will involve building relationships and working collaboratively with various stakeholders, including regional commissioning leads, district and borough councils, community safety partnerships, and NHS colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a plan of evidence-based interventions to deliver strategic priorities for improving mental wellbeing.
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders to deliver integrated activity and identify opportunities for efficiency and impact.
  • Provide specialist knowledge and expertise in substance misuse treatment, governance, procedures, and practices.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with a range of stakeholders, including internal and external partners.
  • Manage change in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment and work effectively with members and senior officers across the council and partner agencies.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level and/or appropriate professional qualification relevant to the field or equivalent by experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and inspire and gain the confidence and participation of a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of all aspects of the commissioning cycle, project life cycle, and related activities gained within a commissioning environment.
  • Experience of delivery of public services and managing change in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience of working in a political environment, working effectively with members and senior officers across the council and partner agencies.
