Mental Health Support Worker

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Mental Health Support Worker to join our Volunteering and Social Engagement team, working across two hub locations: Redbridge and Hackney. In this role, you will create and maintain a supportive and engaging social environment within our hubs, and in the wider community.
Role OverviewThis is a 24-hour per week (Monday to Friday) position across both Hubs Redbridge and Hackney. As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be responsible for planning and leading social and recreational activities, both in the hub and local community venues.
You will facilitate informal conversations, fostering a welcoming atmosphere in the hubs, and assist with the lunch service, encouraging community involvement. You will also conduct assessments for new and existing service users, build supportive relationships, and link service users to additional Jami services when needed.
Your responsibilities will include providing practical support, such as helping with phone calls or correspondence, and supporting service users in building personal and life skills, promoting greater independence. You will work with external agencies to ensure service users receive appropriate signposting, and help facilitate cultural and faith-based activities, including Friday night dinners and festivals.
Requirements- Secondary School Education (Essential)
- Further or higher education in social care, community work, or related fields (Desirable)
- Training in Peer Support or Mental Health First Aid (Desirable)
- Experience in health or social care (Essential)
- Experience working in mental health or the charity sector (Essential)
- Understanding of recovery and factors affecting mental health (Essential)
- Knowledge of equal opportunities and socioeconomic factors impacting mental health (Essential)
- Personal experience of using mental health services (Essential)
- Strong communication, group facilitation, and problem-solving skills (Essential)
- Ability to work independently and in a team (Essential)
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and video conferencing (Essential)
Estimated Salary: £28,000-£32,000 per annum, depending on experience. This salary estimate is based on national averages for similar positions in London.
