Job Summary

The Library Circulation Desk Supervisor - Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the library circulation desk, supervising a team of student employees, and contributing to the development of library policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and train a team of student employees, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent customer service and efficient circulation desk operations.
  • Circulation Services: Coordinate and ensure the quality of library circulation services, including staff scheduling, training, assessment, and internal communication.
  • Workload Management: Manage workload priorities for oneself and team members, ensuring timely completion of scheduled and assigned tasks within established guidelines.
  • Statistics and Reporting: Record, compile, and manage statistics for library patronage and reference questions asked at the circulation desk.
  • Project Management: Manage projects involving the shelving, relocation, placement, and maintenance of printed library materials.
  • Documentation and Scheduling: Create documentation and schedules for training of student staff.
  • File Management: Create and maintain files relating to student workers.
  • Website Management: Assist with maintaining and updating websites for library hours, including working with IT for door lock schedules.
  • Space Management: Manage scheduling of LLC spaces and post signage for LLC events, closures, and room reservations.
  • Policies and Procedures: Contribute to the creation and implementation of library policies and procedures with library staff.
  • Student Worker Budget: Maintain student worker budget, help set student wages, and work with library head on adjusting student budget.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Help distribute library marketing materials and create or maintain some book displays within the library.
  • Support Services: Provide back-up for makerspace and special collections patrons along with building manager.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; or an associate degree plus two years of experience in a library; or four years of experience in a library.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of or ability to learn library-related computer programs and equipment, including SCA microfilm equipment; knowledge of or ability to learn makerspace equipment and programs; computer skills, including Word, Excel, Canva, and web browsers; records maintenance skills; knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control; database management skills; ability to meet deadlines; effective communication skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, patrons, and external stakeholders; effective problem-solving skills to assist patrons and stakeholders; ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise judgment; ability to make procedural decisions and judgments; knowledge or ability to train in the principles and procedures of professional library work including methods, practices, and techniques.
