Library Circulation Services Coordinator

Overview

The primary role of this position is to oversee and manage the daily operations of the library circulation desk, directly supervising a team of student employees, typically ranging from six to eight each semester. This role involves the development of training materials and policies for student staff, as well as the management of the Reserve Books Room. Additionally, the supervisor will oversee data collection related to library usage and maintain records associated with patron accounts. This position also supports the Library head in managing the Student Worker budget and contributes to the formulation and execution of library policies, procedures, and workflows. Participation in library and campus committees is expected, along with coordination of outreach activities, programming, and events for the library.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and supervise hourly student staff, with potential oversight of full-time staff.
  • Ensure the quality of library circulation services through effective staff scheduling, training, and communication.
  • Prioritize and manage workloads for both oneself and team members, ensuring tasks are completed within established timelines.
  • Compile and manage statistics related to library patronage and reference inquiries.
  • Oversee projects related to the organization, relocation, and maintenance of library materials.
  • Develop documentation and schedules for the training of student employees.
  • Maintain comprehensive records related to student workers.
  • Assist in updating library websites, including coordinating with IT for access control schedules.
  • Manage the scheduling of library spaces and communicate relevant information regarding events and closures.
  • Collaborate with library staff to create and implement library policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the student worker budget, assist in setting wages, and collaborate with library leadership on budget adjustments.
  • Aid in the distribution of library marketing materials.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of book displays within the library.
  • Provide support for makerspace and special collections patrons as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree; or an Associate degree with two years of library experience; or four years of library experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with library-related software and equipment, including microfilm technology.
  • Willingness to learn about makerspace tools and programs.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Canva, and web browsers.
  • Strong record-keeping abilities.
  • Understanding of inventory management and ordering processes.
  • Skills in database management.
  • Ability to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to foster positive relationships with colleagues and patrons.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to assist patrons and stakeholders.
  • Capability to organize work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Competence in making procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Knowledge or ability to instruct others in professional library practices and techniques.

Advertised Salary

The minimum salary for this position is $27,923, with compensation commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Work Environment

This position is primarily indoors, providing protection from weather and contaminants, although employees may experience occasional temperature variations. Regular sitting and repetitive hand motions are required.
