About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Section Engineer to join our team at GFG. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering function within your area, promoting continuous improvement efforts, and driving sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Leadership: Lead the mechanical engineering team, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure optimal plant operations.
  • Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement planned maintenance and inspection schedules to meet statutory, safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to production management and department engineers to ensure smooth plant operations.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure plant personnel and contractors operate within relevant internal policies and statutory Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
  • Process Safety: Implement and demonstrate a required approach to process safety, including the management of change.
  • Expenditure Control: Monitor and control expenditure on spares, materials, and labor to keep within agreed budgets.
  • Capital and Revenue Schemes: Identify and assist in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes to enhance engineering and production performance.
  • Training and Development: Organize and manage the training and development of the mechanical engineering team and production personnel.
  • Project Implementation: Lead and assist in the implementation of capital, revenue, and major maintenance schemes.
  • Contract Management: Negotiate contracts, organize, and control specialist contractors providing maintenance and services.
  • Problem Solving: Lead and coordinate investigations, identify root cause, and implement solutions to problems occurring within the area of responsibility.
  • KPI Monitoring: Monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility, identify deviations, and implement corrective action.
  • Team Management: Manage and develop engineers and craft teams to satisfy current and long-term business objectives.
Requirements
  • Leadership Skills: A performance and achievement-oriented professional with leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce.
  • Technical Expertise: Experience in plant engineering and maintenance, with a strong understanding of engineering principles and reliability-based maintenance.
  • Communication Skills: Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills to work with various stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Education and Experience: An engineering qualification (HNC or higher) and at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or technical role.
  • Plant Engineering Experience: Experience in plant engineering, ideally with an understanding of VIM, VAR, ESR Furnaces, Heat Treatment Furnaces, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles, reliability-based maintenance, and failure reductions.
  • CMMS Experience: Experience with a CMMS (INFOR current system).
