Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Scientist to contribute to our research team at the UK Atomic Energy Authority. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in developing novel collision operator schemes and implementing them in our software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop mathematical tools for accurate solution of kinetic equations, with a focus on tools for modelling collisions.
  • Implement developed methodologies in code, ensuring high performance and efficiency.
  • Perform detailed code analysis, evaluating key performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Define test cases for new code development, ensuring robustness and reliability.
  • Develop uncertainty quantification schemes for robust prediction, leveraging advanced mathematical techniques.
  • Contribute to reporting results and outreach work, sharing knowledge with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with national and international partners to evolve codes and exploit emerging computing architectures.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in a computational, mathematical, or physical science discipline, or equivalent experience in a commercial or research environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of kinetic theory and numerical methods for simulating kinetic systems.
  • Experience with compiled languages (C++, Fortran, C, Rust) or advanced scripting languages (Julia, R, Python).
  • Good understanding of UNIX operating systems and software engineering practices.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
  • Knowledge of uncertainty quantification approaches and ability to work in a diverse team environment.
