As a Senior Visualization Scientist, you will be an integral part of the Data Solutions team within the Computing Division at UKAEA. This role encompasses research, development, and support across various domains including cloud technologies, high-performance computing, algorithmic innovation, artificial intelligence, and advanced visualization techniques. Our mission is to enhance the understanding and engineering of fusion reactors, with your contributions directly influencing engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a dynamic team to develop cutting-edge visualization tools and explore innovative methods to enhance analytical capabilities for experiments conducted on various fusion devices.
  • Utilize contemporary visualization technologies in partnership with experts in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
  • Assist in documenting findings and engaging in outreach efforts both internally and externally.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctorate in computational, mathematical, or physical sciences.
  • Proven experience in scientific visualization.
  • Familiarity with popular visualization frameworks such as Kitware-Paraview, Omniverse, Blender, or Unity.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software including Autodesk Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max.
  • Demonstrated artistic and creative skills, supported by a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in 3D modeling, texturing, and environment design.
  • Knowledge of computer graphics, including rendering techniques, shading languages, and graphics APIs (e.g., OpenGL, DirectX, Vulkan).
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C++, CUDA, or VTK.
  • Experience with visualization-relevant data formats and adept in data conversion (e.g., VTK, VDB, USD, HDF5).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks applied to computer graphics and computational systems.
  • Understanding of high-performance computing, distributed systems, or cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Hands-on experience with Nvidia Omniverse SDKs and PIXAR's Universal Scene Description (USD).
  • Familiarity with real-time rendering engines such as Nvidia Omniverse, Unreal, or Unity Engine, alongside visualization techniques for PIXAR's Universal Scene Description (USD).
  • Experience in real-time data visualization using tools like Grafana, Kibana, or other open-source dashboarding solutions.
  • Experience in developing and employing digital twins for the simulation and analysis of real-world systems.
  • Contributions to open-source initiatives or published research in relevant fields.
