Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Stroke Medicine Specialist to join our team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals. As a key member of our Hyper-Acute Stroke Service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our stroke services.

Main Duties

  • Provide expert clinical care to patients with stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) in our HASU ward rounds and clinics.
  • Participate in weekly Stroke MDT meetings to discuss patient care and service development.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and specialist nurses to ensure high standards of care.
  • Contribute to the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in research, audit, and clinical governance activities to improve patient outcomes and service quality.

Audit and Research

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects.

Desirable Criteria

  • Critical appraisal skills.
  • Evidence of knowledge of research methodology.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a License to Practise.
  • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent.
  • Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training in a relevant specialty.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant higher degree.

Experience and Achievements

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Stroke Medicine.
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Attendance at a recognised management course.

Teaching and Training

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

Desirable Criteria

  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications.
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision.
  • Attendance at a teaching course.
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education.

Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to use IT Systems – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook.
  • Evidence of innovation.

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of continual learning and development.
  • Self-awareness and understanding of impact on others.
